The purpose of this study is to investigate of perceived health status, social support and self care agency of the aged, to examine the relationship among perceived health status, social support, and self care agency, and to explore the factors affecting the degree of self care agency of aged. The subjects consisted of 381 elderly living in Seoul, Daegu, Kyungpook and kyungnam. The findings are as follows. The mean scores of perceived health status, social support, and self care agency of the aged were 8.72, 44.23, and 140.72. The mean item scores of perceived health status, social support, and self care agency of the aged were 2.91, 2.21, and 4.26. The more a subject’s perceived health status, the higher the self care agency. The higher a subject’s social support, the higher the self care agency. The relationship between general characteristics and perceived health status shows a significant difference with regard to sex, educational level, occupation in the past, religion, economic status, pocket money, marital status, living status, and disease at present. The factors related to the old people’s degree of self care agency were sex, age, educational level, economic status, pocket money, marital status, living status, perceived health status, and social support. The factors influencing the degree of self care agency independently when other variables were controlled were sex, age, educational level, disease at present, social support, and perceived health status. The most important variables affecting old people’s self care agency was social support which accounted for 28.94% of the variance in the stepwise multiple regression analysis.
